A planar dense wavelength division multiplexes comprising a Y-junction provided at its input to yield a flattened response is described herein. The flat response at the input is achieved by producing two gaussian-like profiles partially overlapping one another by employing a Y-junction with small channel-to-channel separation at the input of the division multiplexes.
