ABSTRACT A flexible coupling for a railroad vehicle comprising a housing secured to the vehicle and a coupling rod extending into the housing and equispaced from the housing interior wall by means of one or more elastic rings under tension arranged perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the coupling rod and located between the housing inner wall and the coupling rod and between opposed annular ridges provided on the coupling rod and the housing inner wall. The housing inner wall and the coupling rod are of oval cross-section, the major axes of the cross-sectional profiles of the coupling rod and housing inner wall being vertical when in their installed positions. With this arrangement, a defined horizontal return position is assured for a smaller installed size of the coupling, so that a return position is always assured for both vertical swivelling movements and rotational movements about the coupling axis.
