A B S T R A C T A flexible coated abrasive sheet material having abrasive grains adhesively bonded to at least one side of a backing comprising at least two arrays, each of said arrays being of non-interlaced substantially coplanar and coparallel reinforcing textile yarns oriented in substantially the same directions, said arrays being positioned in the plane of the backing and oriented in at least two respective distinct directions, most of the tensile strength of the coated abrasive sheet material along each of said at least two directions being furnished by the yarns of the array oriented in the direction of said array.
