A cover system (14) for an open-topped container (12), such as a dump truck body, including a flexible tarpaulin (15) sized to extend across the length of the container. A weighted element (40) is carried by the tarpaulin adjacent to but offset from the front end of the tarpaulin. The weighted element is "gravity-biased" so that it pulls the tarpaulin down and holds it down against the load within the container when the tarpaulin is in its deployed position. In a preferred embodiment, the weighted element includes one or more metal bars (42) that are contained within pockets (45) spanning the width of the tarpaulin.
