18 ABSTRACT A flexible endoscopic probe is provided. The probe includes a fiber optic image guide and a lens adhered to the distal end of the fiber optic image guide. one or more fiber optic illumination fibers surround the image guide and terminate at the distal end of the probe. These illumination fibers are held in place by a short retaining tube and a potting material injected into the spaces between the fibers, the image guide and the retaining tube. Depending on the application, an additional covering layer can be added to provide an additional environmental barrier. A method of manufacturing the flexible probe is also provided.
