A skate includes a boot having an upper portion for supporting the lower leg, ankle and foot, and a footbed for supporting the sole of a foot. The footbed includes anterior and posterior portions as well a hinge located between the anterior and posterior portions. The hinge permits upward pivotal movement of the anterior and posterior portions of the footbed relative to each other. The skate also includes blade means, which may include an ice skating blade or wheels. The blade means has anterior and posterior portions depending rigidly from the anterior and posterior portions of the footbed respectively.
