Optical fibres are often spliced to repair breaks or simply to obtain longer distances between optical transceivers. The currently used splices are difficult to assemble in the field, and have a number of performance problems including poor durability and lack of flexibility. The invention provides a rugged, flexible fusion splice enclosure suitable for tactical fibre repair and a method for providing such a splice enclosure. In the preferred embodiment, this splice enclosure consists of a bend controller, a barrel, splice protection sleeves, O-rings, end protectors, crimp sleeves and an enclosure jacket cover.
