FLEXIBLE SEATING STRUCTURE FOR ROTARY VALVE A flexible seating apparatus is disclosed for use in rotary valves comprising a flexible seat ring attached to one of the valve body and valve closure member in a cantilevered fashion and maintained thereagainst by a resilient member, the latter being held captive in a pre-formed channel in the flexible seat ring. Slotted fastener holes spaced radially along the flexible seat and corresponding fasteners permit automatic axial adjustment and proper positioning of the flexible seat ring upon assembly and initial closure of the valve's closure member. An alternate embodiment is disclosed in which the flexible seat ring is mounted to the other of the valve body and the valve closure member. The present flexible seating apparatus can be used with rotary ball valves and butterfly valves, for example, and further, is advantageously used to permit droptight metal-to-metal valve seating.
