A tape or flexible sheet is described for use in repairing ruptured pipelines orthe like. The flexible sheet or strip is comprised of a plurality of longitudinally arranged fibers of a generally identical cross-section. The fibers are disposed in a side-by-side arrangement within a thermoplastic or thermosetting matrix. The thickness of the sheet or strip is generally equal to the diameter of the fibers which is usually in the range of from about .006 to about .010, whereby side portions of the fibers are encased in said matrix, but the portions at opposed faces of the sheet or strip are generally exposed. This assures that the fibres or wires or the tape, when applied, engage directlythe surface of the workpiece or the wires or fibres of the adjacent layer as opposed to prior art where a plastic intermediate layer was deliberately maintained giving rise to the danger of leaks or blowouts.

L'épaisseur de la feuille ou de la bande est égale au diamètre des fibres, qui est généralement d'environ 0,006 à 0,010; les parties latérales des fibres sont placées à l'intérieur de la matrice, mais les parties affleurant les surfaces opposées de la feuille ou de la bande sont généralement exposées. Cette disposition assure aux fibres ou aux fils de la feuille ou de la bande un contact direct avec la surface de travail ou avec les fibres ou les fils des couches voisines, plutôt qu'un contact avec une couche intermédiaire en plastique, conformément à la solution offerte antérieurement, laquelle comportait un risque de fuites ou de jaillissement incontrôlé.
