A decorative feature is formed in the side wall of a thermoplastic tube formed from a longitudinally stretched, extruded, thermoplastic cylinder by heating a selected portion of the side wall of the tube, disposed on a mandrel, to a temperature sufficient to soften the selected portion to accept formation of a decorative feature therein. The heated selected portion is then contacted with a die carrying the desired decorative feature so as to form the decorative feature and the side wall then cooled. Heating of the selected portion of the side wall may be by a hot fluid or a hot die and, if desired, a vacuum may be used to form a raised feature.
Formation d'un motif décoratif sur la paroi latérale d'un tube thermoplastique, à partir d'un cylindre étiré longitudinalement et moulé par extrusion, en chauffant une section choisie de la paroi latérale du tube placée sur un mandrin à une température suffisante pour l'amollir en vue de former un motif décoratif. On obtient le motif décoratif en mettant la section choisie chauffée en contact avec un moule comportant le motif voulu, puis l'on refroidit la paroi latérale. On peut chaufferr la section choisie de la paroi latérale au moyen d'un liquide ou d'un moule chauffé et, si on le désire, créer un vide pour former un motif en relief.
