An improved aircraft flight management system includes a flight management computer (FMC), left and right control display units (CDU's) and a backup CDU. Adigital databus links the FMC and three CDU's. Upon detecting a failure in either the left or right CDU, the FMC automatically causes the backup CDU to replace the failed CDU in operation, thereby relieving the flight crew of the burden of interfacing to the FMC through only one CDU.

Système amélioré de gestion de vol d'aéronefs qui comporte un ordinateur de gestion de vol (FMC), des blocs d'affichage et de commande (CDU) gauche et droit ainsi qu'un bloc d'affichage et de commande de secours. Un bus de données numérique relie le FMC et les trois CDU. En cas de détection d'une défaillance du CDU gauche ou droit, le FMC amène automatiquement le CDU de secours à remplacer le CDU défectueux, ce qui soulage l'équipage du problème qui consiste à interagir avec le FMC par l'intermédiaire d'un seul CDU.
