A float for a line for a fishing net. The line has a buoyant body with openings at each end to receive the line. The buoyant body includes a cavity within the body to receive a knot in the line. The body may be in two parts that can be glued together or held together with circumferential bands. The body may also have a longitudinal opening extending from the cavity to the outside, the knot being entered into the cavity by prising apart the opening to force the knot through the opening into the cavity. The float avoids the disadvantages in the prior art of uncovered knots that interfere with the smooth operation of the rollers used to haul in the nets and may also tear the nets.
