A floatation apparatus for hand tools includes an elongate float having a first end, a second end, an external surface and a longitudinal axis An opening is provided in the external surface of the float, which extends between the first end and the second end parallel to the longitudinal axis. The opening is adapted to receive a shaft of a hand tool, but is smaller than opposed ends of the hand tools such that movement of the hand tool along the longitudinal axis is limited by the opposed ends of the hand tool. Fasteners are provided for detachably securing the float to the hand tool and selectively preventing the shaft of the hand tool from being withdrawn from the opening in the external surface of the float.
