ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A floating body comprises a reinforcing rib embed- ded in a foam-material element made of polyethylene or polystyrene foam, the rib arranged on edge being of constant width, and decreasing in height from the middle of the length of the floating body towards the ends thereof. The rib consists of a core having reinforcing layers, made of fibre- glass, on the top and bottom surfaces. A floating body made in this way has an extremely low weight of about 9 kg and, in addition to this, it rides very well, especially as a glider. The construction and shape of the said rib make is possible to achieve a distribution of rigidity which is independent of the external shape of the floating body.
