A method fo clarifying bodies of water and eliminating algal bloom caused by planktonic algae in water harboring biological systems is described using a novel flocculating agent prepared in an aqueous solution containing a combination of a monomeric or polymeric aluminum salt and a polybasic carboxylic acid; the method results in complete clarification of a body of water without harming fish that may be present; a preferred flocculating agent described includes a combination of polymeric aluminum hydroxy-chloride and L- (+)-tartaric acid.

L'invention porte sur un procédé de clarification d'une masse d'eau et de suppression de la prolifération algale occasionnée par une algue planctonique dans de l'eau où vivent des systèmes biologiques. Ce procédé consiste à utiliser un nouveau floculant élaboré dans une solution aqueuse contenant une combinaison de sel d'aluminium monomère ou polymère ainsi qu'un acide carboxylique polybasique; ce procédé débouche sur une clarification totale de la masse d'eau sans porter préjudice aux poissons qui peuvent s'y trouver. Un floculant préféré comporte une combinaison d'hydroxy-chlorure d'aluminium polymère et d'acide tartrique-L-(+).
