An appliance for applying liquid wax to a floor surface includes a wax dispenser and a wiper. The dispenser applies the wax as a pool to the floor surface, and the wiper is shaped to prevent the lateral and rearward spread of the wax. The pool of wax thoroughly wets the floor surface, and the wiper acts to control the thickness of the coating. The appliance is particularly suited for commercial and semi-commercial use, and makes the application of the wax less dependant upon operator skill.
