Inventor: Charles A. Green Title: IMPELLER FOR FLOTATION MACHINE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An impeller for a flotation machine has a circular lower plate with a central hole for supplying air through a hollow shaft to the underside, and a circular upper plate having a larger central hole and sloping downwardly toward the outside, together with a series of radial, upright vane ribs between the plates and each having an upright rod attached to the outer edge of the rib and to the plates. A series of upright, radial finger plates, disposed beneath and also interposed between the positions of the ribs, and less in radial extent than the ribs, depend from the lower plate and are attached to upright rods at their outer edges. Both plates and also the ribs, finger plates and associated rods are elastomer covered to reduce wear, while the thickness of the elastomer on the vane ribs, finger plates and rods is propor- tioned to provide a greater thickness at the rounded outer edge than at the rounded inner edge of the resulting pumping vanes and pumping fingers. Pulp from the tank flows through the larger central hole in the upper plate, around the shaft, to be pumped outwardly by the vanes. Pulp received centrally, along with air, is agitated with the air and pumped outwardly by the fingers. The impeller may be reversed in position on the shaft, so that the fingers will extend upwardly. In this case, the shaft supplies air to the space between the plates, while pulp from below moves into the central space to be agitated with the air and pumped outwardly by the vanes and pulp from above re- ceived by the fingers is pumped outwardly. Either impeller may be utilized with a stabilizer which surrounds the impeller and has radial vanes and a cover for the vanes, while both the stabilizer and the impeller are spaced above the bottom of the flotation machine tank.
