A process and apparatus for separating suspended solid material from a fluid, comprising the steps of adding in a chamber buoyant media as glass spheres with 30-250 micron diameter (106) to the fluid to form a first mixture of fluid influent and buoyant media, adding a flocculant (108) to the said first mixture to form a second mixture of influent, buoyant media and flocculant, transferring said second mixture to a flotation chamber (200), introducing a pressurised fluid (203) to the second mixture in said flotation chamber, removing separated floating sludge from said flotation chamber, and removing separated clarified effluent from said flotation chamber. Optionally, a coagulant may be added after the flocculant.
La présente invention se rapporte à un procédé et à un appareil permettant de séparer une matière solide en suspension d'un fluide. Le procédé selon l'invention comprend les étapes consistant : à ajouter au fluide, dans une chambre, un milieu flottant sous forme de sphères de verre (106) d'un diamètre de 30 à 250 micromètres, afin de former un premier mélange d'influent fluide et de milieu flottant ; à ajouter un floculant (108) au premier mélange, afin de former un second mélange d'influent, de milieu flottant et de floculant ; à transférer ledit second mélange dans une chambre de flottaison (200) ; à introduire un fluide sous pression (203) dans le second mélange contenu dans ladite chambre de flottaison ; à éliminer les boues flottantes de ladite chambre de flottaison ; et à éliminer le centrat séparé de ladite chambre de flottaison. Un coagulant peut éventuellement être ajouté après le floculant.
