A flow control choke valve comprising a body having flow inlet means and an inlet chamber in said body, a bean of restricted opening mounted within said body and a flow conduit extending a short distance between the inlet chamber and said bean, the bean comprising an orifice and a diffusion insert of wear-resistant material. The needle valve of the choke may also be provided with a hardened, wear-resistant section in the area which intersects the flow stream.
