ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A flow control device comprising a baffle plate and a plurality of dividers radially disposed to space the plate above a nozzle through which liquid is to be discharged. The device finds particular application in substantially eliminating any entrainment of a supernatant phase such as metallurgical slag or of an oxidizing atmosphere resulting from the formation of vortexing funnels (commonly referred to in literature as vortices) disrupting liquid flow in a draining container.
