ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A bifurcated channel comprising a main channel carrying a water flow and a branch channel bifurcating therefrom is provided with flow deflecting means adjacent the upstream corner of the bifurcation relative to the water flow, the deflecting means comprising a wall which defines a narrow channel extending around the corner, with its inlet in the main channel and its outlet in the branch channel, for deflecting a small proportion of the water flow from the main stream into the branch channel to counteract the effect of the normal flow of water from the main flow into the branch which causes eddying; the small deflected flow opposes the eddy and either reduces it or prevents its formation so as to reduce the sedimentation normally caused by such eddies at the entrances to branch channels.
