IMPROVED FLOWMETER ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A flowmeter for measuring the flow rate of a liquid or gaseous media is disclosed. The flowmeter comprises a body portion including an inlet and an outlet. A fluid path extends between the inlet and the outlet. A core tube is disposed vertically within the body portion and a recessed groove is defined by the core tube. The groove extends longitudinally relative to the core tube and a first piston is movably disposed within the core tube and disposed adjacent the groove. A cross sectional area of the fluid path is defined by the groove and the first piston, the cross section- al area of the fluid path being variably dependent upon the longitudinal disposition of the first piston relative to the groove. A cover tube is disposed adjacent the body portion and in fluid communication with the fluid path. A second piston is disposed within the cover tube and is connected to the first piston by a connecting means enabling the first and second pistons to move in unison. A first and a second side of the second piston are immersed in a static fluid enabling controlled damping of the first piston and an indicator cooperating with the second piston indicates the position thereof relative to the cover tube. An embodiment is dis- closed for measuring gaseous flow in which the indicator is operative within a range dependent upon the buoyancy of the connecting means immersed in the static fluid.
