The present invention provides a fluid accepting, transporting and retaining structure, useful in disposable absorbent articles (20). In-use fluid deposited on a disposable absorbent article employing such a structure is moved via inter fiber and intra fiber transport to a fluid retention area remote from the point of fluid insult. By moving fluid away from the point of insult a more effective use of the absorbent core (24) is achieved providing a clean and dry surface (22) for the wearer.

Le fluide entrant en contact avec un article absorbant utilisant une telle structure est transporté entre les fibres et à l'intérieur de celles-ci jusqu'à une zone de retenue de fluide éloignée du point d'introduction. Grâce à l'éloignement du fluide du point d'introduction, on obtient une utilisation plus efficace du noyau absorbant (24), offrant à l'utilisateur une surface propre et sèche (22).
