A fluid activated beam press includes an elongated housing defining a beam with a U--shaped cavity and an elongated movable member is disposed within the U- shaped cavity. Elongated guide slots are provided in the movable member perpendicular to a back plate on the housing. Fasteners extend between the opposed sides of the housing, with at least one fastener positioned within each of the elongated guide slots, such that the movable member only travels in the direction of the elongated guide slots with such travel being limited when each fastener reaches a remote end of each of the elongated guide slots. A fluid actuator is positioned between the back plate and the back of the movable member to move the movable member from a retracted position adjacent to the back plate to an extended position spaced from the back plate.
