19 IMPROVED FLUID ACTUATED BRAKE SYSTEM ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved fluid actuated vehicle brake system (175), used when pressurized fluid is provided to one or more brakes (54, 56), provides a simple means for preventing a loss of pressure at one brake from affecting the other brake even though both may be fed through the same source line (38) by the same pressure source (4). A separate vertically positioned closing valve (188, 206) is used between the brakes and the source line. The closing valve relies on gravity only to bias its sealing element (116) from an upper sealing surface (124) to a lower, normal operating position (184). The closing valve normally permits free flow of fluid through it. However, if the fluid flow rate through the closing valve rises substantially above a normal flow rate, which could occur as a result of a rupture of the brake line (46) or a failure of the air or hydraulic brake itself, the sealing element is raised within the valve by the force of the fluid rushing through the valve and engages the upper sealing surface to seal the brake line.
