An improved method for the reduction of dust created by a surface brush is disclosed. Conventional methods of dust reduction involve the application of water to the dirt or debris to be cleaned up to reduce dust when swept. The method of the present invention consists of the application of water or other dampening fluid to the brush itself, rather than to the debris to be swept up. Dust is reduced, as is water consumption.
