- 2 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A cylindrical tape guide has shallow grooves formed therein generally circumferentially and substan- tially parallel to the direction of relative motion of the tape over the guide, the guide being either stationary or rotating, and the grooves being sufficiently shallow to enable entrainment rather than venting of the air that is brought by the tape into the funnel-shape entrance region where the tape tangentially approaches the guide.
