A dielectric fluid for electrical discharge machining which contains an ester of branched acids and branched alcohols. The dielectric fluid reduces fire hazard during use due to a high flash point. In addition, the dielectric fluid has very low odor, is non toxic, and has good biodegradability. Improved surface finish or production speed can be achieved. A phosphite containing additive is shown to improve color stability.
