ABSTRACT This invention relates to apparatus for the control of process air flow. One embodiment, useful as an air control valve in con- trolling the caliper of paper leaving the calender rolls in a paper-making machine, comprises a longitudinally moveable, spool-shaped valve core positioned within a cylindrical valve chamber which acts as a common receptacle for two air sources, one at each end of the chamber, wherein the length of the chamber is substantially equal to the length of the chamber. The chamber has an egress aperture in its side wall. Selective positioning of the core by moving it longitudinally permits the flow of air from both sources to be controlled simultaneously. By that means, air may be caused to flow from neither or either (but not both) of the air sources, through the valve chamber and out through the egress aperture to a desired location, such as the surface of a calender roll, for the purpose of altering its diameter totally as a result of its temperature being changed.
