ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The flame temperature of a fluid fuel fired burner is reduced by mixing flue gas with the combustion air supply before introduction of the fuel and combustion take place. The NOX produced by the process of combustion is thereby reduced. The flue gas may also be induced from the furnace remote from the flame zone of the burner such that the flame is not disturbed. A venturi may be used to induce the flue gas from the furnace.
