ABSTRACT FLUID LEVEL MEASUREMENT SYSTEM (with reference to Fig. 2 of the drawings) In a fluid level measurement system for the measurement of the level of fluid (12) in a vessel (10) the electrical impedance (Z1) of a first conduction path between a central rod electrode (18) and a surrounding cylindrical electrode (100) and the electrical impedance (Zx) of a second conduction path between the cylinder (100) and the vessel (10) are established. The first conduction path is restricted to be below the minimum fluid level (16) by an insulating coating (19) on the rod (18); the second conduction path varies with fluid level. An output signal is extracted from the electrodes potentiometrically and is indicative of fluid level. The signal may be linearized by application to a circuit having a matched non-linear transfer function. The system overcomes the problem of providing a continuous output signal indicative of level, which to date has only been possible by combination of outputs from discrete level sensors.
