ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A unit for the sterilization of fluid media, for example contaminated water, the unit including a source of germicidal radiation disposed substantially centrally within a tubular structure or housing, there being provided between said source of germicidal radiation and the innermost surface of said tubular structure an annular passage constituting a flow path for the fluid media. The unit is capable of providing a lethal or "killing" dosage of germicidal radiation, in excess of 99.99% "kill", even for very large flow rates of fluid media through the unit.
