Apparatus for mixing reactive fluids which are capable of ignition or explosion, at elevated temperature and pressure, for subsequent conversion by contact with a catalyst (12), such as a (partial) oxidation catalyst or in a combustion zone, comprising in sequence an upstream inlet end, a mixer (4), an expander (5), a diffuser (7) and a downstream outlet end (9), the outlet end being characterised by a greater available cross sectional area than any of the inlet end, mixer and expander, and the expander having substantially increasing internal cross sectional area in downstream direction, wherein the available cross sectional area of the expander at any point along its length is less than the difference in internal cross section of the expander at its downstream and its upstream ends, a process therefor and the use thereof, in particular the use thereof in a process for the catalytic partial oxidation of hydrocarbon feedstock.

Dispositif servant à mélanger des liquides réactifs capables de s'enflammer ou de produire une explosion à des températures et à des pressions élevées, dans le but de les convertir par la suite par contact au moyen d'un catalyseur (12), tel qu'un catalyseur d'oxydation (partielle) ou dans une zone de combustion. Ce dispositif comprend consécutivement une extrémité d'entrée amont, un mélangeur (4), un expanseur (5), un diffuseur (7) et une extrémité de sortie aval (9), cette dernière étant caractérisée par une section transversale disponible plus importante que celles de l'extrémité d'entrée, du mélangeur et de l'expanseur, celui-ci présentant une section transversale intérieure sensiblement croissante dans le sens aval, la section transversale disponible de l'expanseur sur tout point de sa longueur étant inférieure à la différence de la section transversale intérieure de l'expanseur à ses extrémités aval et amont. Procédé servant à mettre ce dispositif en application et mise en application dudit dispositif, en particulier, dans un procédé d'oxydation catalytique partielle de charges d'hydrocarbures.
