The invention provides equipment and a process for handling production of fluids from an oil or gas bearing formation penetrated by a well, or group of wells. A vessel designed to eliminate or minimize pipeline fluid surges that come into a processing facility is disclosed. The vessel would be sized to handle normal operating conditions, however when a large slug of fluid enters this vessel it is designed to automatically change its mode of operation to handle the increased flow. The design of this system greatly reduces the liquid carryover to gas processing equipment.
