A fluid working machine comprises a controller (12) and a working chamber (2) of cyclically varying volume. The working, chamber has both an electronically controllable primary low pressure valve (14) and a secondary low pressure port (22) associated therewith, each of which is openable and closable in phased relation to cycles of working chamber volume to bring the working chamber into fluid communication with a low pressure manifold (16, 26). At least the primary low pressure valve is un-der the active control of the controller to enable the controller to determine the net displacement of fluid by the working chamber on a cycle by cycle basis. The primary low pressure valve and the secondary low pressure port are openable concurrently during a portion of at least some cycles of working chamber volume to enable fluid to flow into or out of the working chamber concurrent-ly through both the primary low pressure valve and the secondary low pressure port. The primary low pressure valve may be closed under the active control of the controller a period of time after the secondary low pressure port closes.

L'invention concerne une machine de travail à fluide qui comprend une unité de commande (12) et une chambre de travail (2) dont le volume varie de manière cyclique. La chambre de travail possède à la fois une soupape basse pression primaire régulable électroniquement (14) et un port basse pression secondaire (22) qui lui est associé, chacun pouvant s'ouvrir et se fermer en phase avec les cycles du volume de la chambre de travail pour l'amener en communication fluidique avec un collecteur basse pression (16, 26). Au moins la soupape basse pression primaire est sous la commande active de l'unité de commande afin de permettre à ladite unité de déterminer le déplacement net de fluide par la chambre de travail sur une base de cycle par cycle. La soupape basse pression primaire et le second port basse pression peuvent s'ouvrir simultanément pendant une partie d'au moins quelques cycles du volume de la chambre de travail, ce qui permet au fluide de pénétrer dans la chambre de travail ou d'en sortir simultanément par à la fois la soupape basse pression primaire et le port basse pression secondaire. La soupape basse pression primaire peut être fermée par la commande active de l'unité de commande un certain temps après la fermeture du port basse pression secondaire.
