Case 04-4161-U.S. APPLICATION OF WILLIAM F. NEWBOLD AND GURNAM SINGH FLUIDIC ANALOG TO DIGITAL CONVERTER ABSTRACT A fluidic analog to electronic digital converter responsive to fluid pressure input signals to produce corresponding electronic digital output signals. A common pressure chamber is provided with a plurality of outlets connected to one side of each of a plurality of respective differential pressure transducers. The other side of each of the differential pressure transducers is connected to a source of a process pressure to be converted. An imput to the common chamber is obtained from a pressure ramp generator capable of producing a fluid pressure ramp In a first embodiment, an electrial output from each of the pressure transducers is detected and is applied to a restec- tive one of a plurality of gates to control electrical signal transmission therethrough. A common oscillator circuit is arranged to supply fixed frequency signals to a signal counter having an output connected to a second input of all of the signal gates. An output from each of the signal gates is applied to a respective one of a plurality of count storage circuits. Each of the signal gates are responsive to an output signal from the respective one of the plurality of pressure transducers to transfer a stored count from the counter to a respective one of the count storage cicuits upon the detection of a pressure equality by the correspond- ing pressure transducers. In a second embodiment, the common chamber is also provided with a pressure measuring transducer. The output from the pressure measuring transducer is applied to each of a plurality of sample and hold circuits. The detected outputs from the differential pressure trans- ducers are also applied to respective ones of the sample and hold circuits to energize the circuits to sample the output from the pressure measuring transducer. The output of the sample and hold circuits are applied to respective inputs of a multiplexer. The output of the multiplexer is, in turn, connected to the input of an analog-to-digital converter to convert the signal output from the multiplexer to a digital signal. -2-
