ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Control of the capacity in a fluidized bed combustion boiler is provided by controlling the density of transport flow circulation of particulate matter from the fluidized bed through heat exchange means and back to the fluidized bed essentially without changing the density of the fluidized bed; the step of controlling density including the steps of introducing gas at the bottom of the heat exchange means which extends generally vertically for generally vertical flow of the particulate matter therethrough and providing flow communication between the fluidized bed and the bottom of the heat exchange means for generating a density gradient in the heat exchange means, thereby to provide a pressure differential through the heat exchange means.
