ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In the development of electrostatic latent images toner particles are employed, the toner particles being carried by carrier particles. According to this invention coated carrier particles are produced in a fluidised bed. A first flow of gas is passed through the bed to fluidise the bed which is constitu- ted by carrier cores. A spout of particles is produced by passing a second flow of gas through the fluidised bed. A partition is provided in the bed and gives cyclic circulation to the bed particles from the spout to the bed and back to the spout. The carrier cores are contacted with coating material.
