Abstract of the Disclosure A fluidized bed furnace for the coating of fuel kernels for nuclear reactors, particularly of HTR fuel kernels, has a reaction tube to accommodate the kernels, the bottom end of which exhibits at least one orifice, as well as an outer tube connected below and at least one inner tube arranged inside the outer tube beneath each orifice, with a porous plate being arranged in the interspace between outer tube and inner tube(s), the interspace being provided for feeding a dilution gas and the inner tube for feeding a coating gas. In order to enable such a furnace to be emptied expeditiously even in a hot condition and without disassembling parts of the furnace, the inner tube can be lowered so far that a downward passage is produced at the porous plate for the kernels falling down and a collecting device is arranged in the interspace for catching the kernels.
