ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A fluorescent azabenzanthronic dye is disclosed having the general formula (I) : Image (I) wherein X = NH- or -S-; and I = -OCH3 or -OC2H5. A process for the preparation of a dye of the general formula (I) is also dis- closed. These dyes are useful in the bulk dyeing of polystyrene, polymethylmethacrylate, rigid PVC, polyethylene, acrylonitrile/ butadiene/styrene copolymers, polycarbonates or mineral oils.
