Abstract of the Disclosure FLUORESCENT LIGHTING SYSTEM A fluorescent lamp system includes a single power source having an output frequency in a range of about 20kHz to 50kHz and a plurality of lamp circuits electrically connected in parallel to the power source. Each of the lamp circuits includes a fluorescent lamp tube having a first filament and a second filament sealed therein at opposite ends, a first component coupled between a first output lead of the power and one lead of the first filament, and a second component coupled between the other lead of the first filament and one lead of the second filament. The other lead of the second filament is coupled to a second output lead of the power source. The first component limits the current through the lamp during normal operation. The first and second components initiate a discharge within the lamp tube during starting. In a first embodiment, the first and second components constitute an LC circuit having a resonant frequency at or near the operating frequency of the power source. In a second embodiment, the first component is a reactive component and the second component is a switch. The switch is closed during starting for heating of the filaments.
