ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION A controlled amount of calcium pyrophosphate in dispersed finely-divided form is included as an inert additive in the phosphor coating of a fluorescent sunlamp to reduce the emission of undesirable short-wavelength ultraviolet radiation (190 nm to 260 nm region). From about 20% to 65% by weight of the calcium pyrophosphate additive is mixed with the phosphor and the amount is cor- related with the density of the phosphor-additive coating to maintain the ratio of short-wavelength ultraviolet radiation to erythemal radiation below a prescribed limit. The additive particles are also larger than about 1 micron and are thus adapted to serve as a selective filter with respect to the undesirable short-wavelength radiations.
