ABSTRACT A device for irradiating a sample with X-radiation and which X-rays are collimated and then passed through a plate which is transparent to X-rays but is light reflecting. A sample placed beyond the plate can be observed by reflection of light by the plate when is is aligned with the X-ray source and collimator for irradiation. A detector for fluorescence from the irradiated sample is also provided.
