Compounds of structural formula I are modulators of the androgen receptor (AR) in a tissue selective manner. They are useful as agonists of the androgen receptor in bone and/or muscle tissue while antagonizing the AR in the prostate of a male patient or in the uterus of a female patient. These compounds are therefore useful in the treatment of conditions caused by androgen deficiency or which can be ameliorated by androgen administration, including osteoporosis, osteopenia, glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis, periodontal disease, bone fracture, bone damage following bone reconstructive surgery, sarcopenia, frailty, aging skin, male hypogonadism, postmenopausal symptoms in women, atherosclerosis, hypercholesterolemia, hyperlipidemia, obesity, aplastic anemia and other hematopoietic disorders, inflammatory arthritis and joint repair, HIV-wasting, prostate cancer, cancer cachexia, muscular dystrophies, premature ovarian failure, and autoimmune disease, alone or in combination with other active agents.
Cette invention concerne des composés représentés par la formule (I) qui sont des modulateurs du récepteur androgénique avec sélectivité tissulaire. Ces modulateurs conviennent bien en tant qu'agonistes du récepteur androgénique dans les tissus osseux et/ou musculaires tout en ayant une action antagoniste vis à vis dudit récepteur dans la prostate d'un patient ou dans l'utérus d'une patiente. Par conséquent, ces composés sont utiles, seuls ou combinés à d'autres agents actifs, pour le traitement de pathologies dues à une déficience androgénique ou qui peuvent être atténuées par l'administration d'androgènes, telles que ostéoporose, ostéopénie, ostéorporose induite par les glucocorticoïdes, affections péri-odontales, fractures osseuses, dégâts osseux à la suite de chirurgie réparatrice osseuse, sarcopenie, fragilité, vieillissement de la peau, hypogonadisme chez l'homme, symptômes de la post-ménopause chez la femme, athérosclérose, hypercholestérolémie, hyperlipidémie, obésité, anémie aplastique et autres troubles hématopoïétiques, arthrite inflammatoire et réparation articulaire, atrophie due au VIH, cancer de la prostate, cachexie due au cancer, dystrophie musculaire, insuffisance ovarienne précoce et maladies auto-immunes.
