Fluorinated phosphonic acid compounds, useful as treatments for substrate surfaces, have the formula (I) : wherein: R1 is a straight chain alkylene group having from 3 to 21 carbon atoms, an oxa-substituted straight chain alkylene group having from 2 to 20 carbon atoms, or a thia-substituted straight chain alkylene group having from 2 to 20 carbon atoms; R2 is a perfluoroalkyl group having from 4 to 10 carbon atoms; R3 is hydrogen, an alkali metal cation, or an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms; and M is hydrogen or an alkali metal cation, with the proviso that if R1 is an unsubstituted straight chain alkylene group, then the sum of carbon atoms in R1 and R2 combined is at least 10.

L'invention concerne de composés d'acide phosphonique fluoré utilisés pour traiter des substrats de surfaces, représentés par la formule (I). Dans cette formule, R¿1? représente un groupe alkylène à chaîne droite comprenant de 3 à 21 atomes de carbone, un groupe alkylène à chaîne droite à substitution oxa comprenant 2 à 20 atomes de carbone ou un groupe alkylène à chaîne droite à substitution thia comprenant 2 à 20 atomes de carbone; R¿2? représente un groupe perfluoroalkyle comprenant 4 à 10 atomes de carbone; R¿3? représente hydrogène, un cation de métal alcalin ou un groupe alkyle comprenant 1 à 6 atomes de carbone; et M représente hydrogène ou un cation de métal à condition que R¿1? représente un groupe alkylène à chaîne droite non substitué et que la somme des atomes de carbone dans R¿1? et R¿2? combinés soit au moins 10.
