Abstract of the Disclosure An adsorbent material for removing fluorine ion from water is formed of an allophane which is processed to yield the material which has a characteristic content by weight of Al -- 15-30%, Si -- 15030%, Fe -- 1-2%, Mg, Ca, alkali (each) 0.01 - 0.1%, the balance being inert elements. The starting allophane can be a Kanuma Tuchi earth, or equivalent. This is crushed and classified to 125-150 mesh, then washed . Iron removal can be carried out magnetically. The material is press dehydrated, and then pulverized or extruded into pellets. These are heat treated by plasma discharge in a closed atmosphere, at a range of 1420-1480° C for 1 - 2 minutes. The adsorbent is relatively rapid in action, and the fluorine can be desorbed by heating.
