Abstract A process is provided for the radiation graft polymerizing of a fluorinated unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer to produce a fluoropolymeric permselective membrane in order to improve its performance when the membrane is used in an electrolysis cell. The process comprises the application of high energy radiation to the membrane to generate free radical sites and treating the membrane with a fluorinated carboxylic acid monomer so the monomer is grafted therewith to form a copolymeric structure. The membrane exhibits improved properties of selectivity.
