ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A gas separation membrane and a process for applying a fluoropolymer, preferably an amorphous polymer of perfluoro-2,2- dimethyl-1,3-dioxole, to a gas separation membrane is disclosed. The membrane for the separation of fluids has a membrane coated with a coating of a fluoropolymer which has an aliphatic ring structure containing fluorine, and in which the primary fluid separating function is provided by the membrane. The process for posttreating a fluid separation membrane comprises applying to the membrane a fluoropolymer having an aliphatic ring structure containing fluorine. The gas separation membrane and the process provide the advantage of a gas separation membrane having improved permselectivity of the membrane with respect to at least one pair of gases, and is also useful for liquid separations.
