A flush-mounted lid for an in-ground enclosure such as an irrigation service vault utilizes co-operating rollers arid rails to retract the lid to an opened position. A hydraulic shock aids in lifting tree lid to facilitate rolling the lid to the opened position. A safety knob connected via a cable to a latch cam permits a user to engage the cam with a stop which arrests movement of the lid and retains the lid in the open position until such time as the safety knob is released. A latching mechanism prevents opening of the lid until released.
