ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to an improved toilet- type flush valve in which a flush valve body having an inlet and an outlet defines a flow path. There is a piston movable in the valve body to control water flow along the flow path and there are means within the valve body which cooperate with the piston to define a control chamber. There is a metering orifice opening into the control chamber, with the metering orifice being upstream of any flow path restriction, with the result that the metering orifice is always at inlet pressure. There is a vent passage connecting the control chamber and the valve body outlet and an externally operable plunger, which may be caused to move by a manual handle or an electric operator. Movement of the plunger opens the vent passage, permitting the piston to vent the control chamber, which opens the flow path between the valve inlet and valve outlet.
